Houska Automotive will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a party featuring regional band The Burroughs.
The free event will take place from 5-8 p.m., Saturday, September 17, at Houska Automotive’s Heavy Duty store, 1005 Riverside Ave., Fort Collins.
The third generation of Houskas now run the workshop which began in 1952 when Chuck Houska, an aircraft mechanic during World War II, opened Houska Repair in Fort Collins.
His son, Dennis, eventually took over the business and now LJ Houska, Chuck’s grandson, runs the business. But it’s a family affair. LJ’s 9-year-old daughter, Annie, enjoys helping her mother, Jen, who oversees the parts department, and delivering parts to technicians when she’s not at school.
This picnic-style celebration is free, but attendees are asked to bring their own picnic and chairs and a donation for the UCHealth Family Practice Center food pantry. All items, including monetary donations, are accepted. Food items most in demand are: peanut butter, beans and lentils, canned tuna and chicken, rice, pasta, baby food, canned fruit, cereal/oatmeal , gluten-free non-perishable products and non-perishable vegan and vegetarian products.
The Burroughs, a nine-piece band led by vocalist Johnny Burroughs, plays classic soul music with a modern twist.
